A Day Well Spent: Volunteering to Prepare Medically Tailored Meals

Community Servings is a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts, dedicated to providing medically tailored meals to people with critical or chronic illness. They believe in the healing power of food and envision a world in which everyone has access to the nutritious food they need to live their healthiest lives.

Following a well-balanced, nutritious diet is especially important for people living with kidney disease as it helps prolong their kidney function and improves their overall quality of life. As we often see with our patient population, Community Servings clients are typically managing multiple illnesses and other social determinants of health. Receiving nutritious meals ensures they have one less thing to worry about.

Our Marketing team was inspired by Community Serving’s mission and volunteered to help prepare meals during a team offsite in Boston. In late April, over 20 team members traveled to Community Serving’s headquarters, learned about food safety, geared up with hair nets, hats, and aprons, and walked into the kitchen ready to lend a hand.

Half the group prepped food and the rest packaged the meals before delivery. When they saw the bags labeled ‘renal,’ they felt an even closer connection to our patients, knowing they were directly helping improve the lives of people with kidney disease.

Given that the majority of our workforce is remote, we encourage teams to meet in person throughout the year to collaborate, bond, and align on business objectives. Interwell understands the value of in-person connection and sets aside budget for teams to gather.

It was a rewarding day for the Marketing team and a great way to support our patient population. Thank you to Community Servings for the wonderful opportunity.
