During a routine physical, Senior Implementation Manager Kyle Oldfield’s primary care doctor recommended blood work, something he’d never done before, as he was only in his early 20s at the time.

When the results came in, his doctor noticed Kyle’s glomerular filtration rate, a measure of kidney function, was low. He referred Kyle to a nephrologist who estimated he had 10 years before he would need a transplant, giving him time to learn about his condition and how to prolong his kidney health.

During this time, Kyle adjusted his habits, followed a more kidney-friendly diet, and shared his diagnosis with friends and family. By the time Kyle was ready for a transplant, he had already reached out to his network to ask for a living donor and discovered his cousin was a match.

Receiving a transplant before requiring dialysis meant that Kyle didn’t have to sacrifice time away while dialyzing and is able to be present for his kids as they’re growing up.

Kyle was drawn to Interwell Health and its mission to help people with kidney disease live their best lives. He has been instrumental in launching several successful programs with our payer partners as a member of our Account Management team and is passionate about sharing his story to help spread awareness about kidney disease and early identification.

By leveraging predictive analytics, we’re working with partners and providers to identify kidney disease earlier and help more patients receive a preemptive transplant or a planned transition to dialysis when needed. We are grateful for the work we do, knowing we have the privilege to serve people like Kyle.
